To the editor:

On behalf of the Shipman Youth Center board of directors, staff and youth, we would like to extend a big "thank you" to the following people for their support in raising needed funds, supplies and food items for "Adopt a Platoon" project: High Peaks Dental, Hannaford, Family Dollar, Price Chopper, Family Dental, McDonald's, Free Masons Lodge of Lake Placid, Karen Meister Services, UPS Store, Bear Essentials, American Legion, Pure Placid, Ernie Hough, Dave and Fran Sheffield, Shirley Hosler, Ken Mihill, Girl Scouts troop leader Lynda Desourdy, and Betty Hunkins.

The "Adopt a Platoon" project was set up to help assist our local troops who are stationed overseas. In early April, Shannon Porter, mother of Casey and Cody Porter, SYC board members working together with local businesses/community members, was able to raise supplies and monies for not only Casey and Cody, but also for members of their platoons (total of 34 people). The staff and youth participated in creating signs, and gathering and packaging the supplies that were shipped to the platoons.

It was a great opportunity for the youth of the SYC to connect with members of the community and to help with some of the troops stationed overseas. Again, a great big "thank you" to the businesses and individuals who helped make "Adopt a Platoon" a big success. We appreciate all the hard work you did for the Shipman Youth Center and our local men and women who are stationed overseas.

Sincerely,

Jason Hooker

Director, Shipman Youth Center
