I came, I swam, I conquered
July 20, 2017

For all its traffic headaches, the Ironman 140.6-mile triathlon continues to be one of the best things to happen to Lake Placid since it started in 1999.

The race not only attracts thousands of athletes, family members and spectators on the fourth Sunday every July, the Ironman Foundation Community Fund gives back to local organizations and athletes end up visiting the region early to train on this breathtaking yet demanding course, swimming on Mirror Lake, biking our state highways and running around town. The economic impact is tremendous, and it lasts a lot longer than one weekend.

For the first time, Ironman has also committed to another weekend in the Adirondacks this year, which will hopefully be just as positive to Lake Placid's economy: a 70.3-mile race on Sunday, Sept. 10.

So, welcome Ironman, welcome racers and family members, welcome spectators. Have a fun and safe Ironman weekend in Lake Placid.
