To the editor:

Many thanks to Linda Friedlander for the recent letter to the editor in which she emphasized the need for action to address the growing concerns about the water quality, especially salt concentrations, in Mirror Lake. Happily, something IS being done and all of us who live in the area and benefit from a healthy Mirror Lake and a healthy community can be part of finding and implementing a solution.

The Ausable River Association's science team identified the elevated chloride levels in 2015 and, working with the Adirondack Watershed Institute, began intensive scientific monitoring aimed at finding solutions and testing their effectiveness. AsRA has partnered with the village of Lake Placid, the town of North Elba and the Mirror Lake Watershed Association and is supported by them as well as by prominent businesses in the community including The Golden Arrow, Mirror Lake Inn and Ironman. Residents of Lake Placid and lovers of Mirror Lake can also help by supporting AsRA's ongoing science aimed at finding lasting solutions to the problems.
