Thanks to the LPVFD

To the editor:

On June 12 my daughter and I paddled our canoe from the state boat launch on Lake Placid to Whiteface Landing and climbed Whiteface. On our return to the boat launch we persevered and made it as far as West Bay off Moose Island. At that point we were headed into the teeth of the wind. Making almost no progress into the wind, shortly before 6 p.m. we called 911. Our position and condition were verified, and we were connected with Robbie at Lake Placid Volunteer Fire Department dispatch. We explained the situation and condition, and were told to stand by.

About 30 minutes later, two LPVFD boats approached us: one large pumper staffed with five volunteers and a flat top staffed with four volunteers. We were quickly transferred from our canoe and returned to the landing where EMTs were awaiting our arrival.

We are most grateful for the volunteers of the LPVFD. They appeared to be very well trained, staffed and equipped, and could not have been nicer to us. They were all very cordial and made us feel comfortable and welcomed.

So thank you to the LPVFD for their selfless contributions to the Lake Placid community, residents and visitors alike.
