LAKE PLACID - Adirondack Foundation's Uihlein-Ironman Sports Fund, established to foster and promote life-long sports and healthy lifestyles, is accepting online grant applications from local athletes and nonprofit organizations.

Uihlein-Ironman Sports Fund focuses on the greater Tri-Lakes and Olympic regions and has two main goals for supporting athletes. One is to provide support to local nonprofit organizations that promote athleticism and engage area youth in traditional summer and winter sports, thus fostering the next generation of competitive athletes. The second goal is to provide financial support for competitive local, young athletes with regional, national and international promise in traditional winter and summer sports. Preference is given to athletes with the most promise and greatest financial need.

Past grant recipients have included U.S. Olympic medalist Chris Mazdzer (luge), Nordic skier Scott Schulz, Lake Placid Outing Club, Friends of Mount Pisgah and the Tupper Lake Youth Nordic Ski Development Club, among others. Race fees, training camps, travel and organized club activities are the types of expenses the fund can help cover.

The deadline to apply is 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 6, 2018. Details about eligibility and application instructions can be found at www.adirondackfoundation.org.

"Ironman Lake Placid this year is celebrating 20 years. We congratulate the race organizers and volunteers, and are deeply inspired by the thousands of racers who have crossed the finish line since 1999," said Cali Brooks, President and CEO, Adirondack Foundation. "Being a successful athlete requires drive, discipline and training, and we are thrilled to join with the Ironman and Uihlein foundations to support local athletes and sports programming."
