Two Lake Placid icons remembered

Last week, when the village of Lake Placid lost two of its most cherished citizens - 89-year-old Reg Clark and 85-year-old Don Edgley - we couldn't help but remember a set of photos Lake Placid News Editor Andy Flynn took of the two men on April 27, 2016 as the Lake Placid Masonic Lodge No. 834 honored them for 60 years of service. One photo stood out. It shows them belly laughing at a joke, something they liked to do, as this group enjoyed their humor.

Don died on Sunday, July 29, and Reg died a day later. Like many, we were devastated. Both were beloved members of the Lake Placid community. Don was its humorist, and Reg was its heart and soul. They both gave so much to their hometowns through their work and volunteerism. Inspiring friends, relatives and strangers until the end, they were role models for what it means to be a productive citizen and a patriot of the U.S.

As the nation continues to be divided by politics, it's refreshing to know there are still millions of down-to-earth people in small towns such as Lake Placid still making a difference, people like Don and Reg. For that, we are grateful to have had them in our lives. RIP, Don and Reg. Thanks for everything. You will be missed.
