To the editor:

It is troubling to hear many people in the North Country's New York State 45th Senatorial District bearing so much economic stress. Many families work two and three jobs to make ends meet. Young people leave this area because there aren't enough decent paying jobs. Many seniors cannot afford needed expensive pharmaceutical drugs. Worse, many go without health care because of insufficient coverage and or high deductibles.

Emily Martz, a candidate for New York State Senate, Democrat and Working Party lines, recognizes these distressing problems. Her education and experience in economic development has already had significant impact in the North Country. Now is the time for her to do more.

Emily has vowed to vote for the New York State Health Act if elected.

With the New York State Health Act, a universal single payer health care program, (passing this June, again, in the NY State Assembly) every New York resident would be eligible to enroll, regardless of age, income, wealth or employment with no network restrictions, deductibles or co-pays. Just one more vote is needed to get the bill out of the Senate committee and onto the floor for a vote. Our senator, Betty Little, has consistently voted NO.

Emily knows the effect the New York State Health Act can have on budgets of state and local municipalities, school districts, households and individuals. All stand to see substantial reductions with the passage of the bill. It would level the playing field for the North Country in the huge economy of New York state. Most importantly, it would provide much needed healthcare for all.

Now it is up to us to vote for our New York Heath Act. Emily Martz will be the needed YES vote. Please vote for Emily Martz for New York State Senate on Nov. 6.
