The Cycle Adirondacks bicycle tour group announced Ticonderoga, Wilmington and Westport as overnight communities for its 2019 Ultimate Cycling Vacation from Aug. 17 to 23.

This will be the fourth annual week-long road cycling tour. Ticonderoga was featured as an overnight community during the 2016 tour, but next summer it will be the first time the tour has stayed in Wilmington or Westport.

Routes in Ticonderoga and Westport will take cyclists in and out of Vermont.

Other locations on the tour include North Elba, Keene, Schroon Lake, Saranac Lake, AuSable and Hague.

Since the tour's debut in 2015, the event has hosted more than 850 guests from nearly every state and province in North America. For many, the event is their first visit to the Adirondacks and surrounding region. The 2019 tour is expected to host 250 cyclists.

"In four years, CycleADK has pedaled 12 counties and more than half of the 100 towns and villages in the Adirondacks," said Matt VanSlyke, who is in charge of CycleADK's guest relations and event operations.

In addition to the money spent locally by the 250 cyclists, CycleADK provides a community grant program as part of its "Cycle Gives" campaign, which provides thousands of dollars toward community-generated projects in Ultimate Cycling Vacation overnight host communities. Since the campaign was introduced in 2017, it has provided more $12,000.

Another way the tour connects its cyclists with communities and landscape is through a daily interactive education programs operated by the Adirondack Mountain Club, CycleADK's conservation partner.

Guests of the Ultimate Cycling Vacation receive locally sourced meals, route, medical and mechanical support in addition to off-bike activities and nightly free community entertainment. The event is also open to non-cycling companions.
